Maha Kumbh Shahi Snan 2025
PAUSH PURNAMASI
According to the Panchang, Paush Purnima Tithi will start at 05:03 PM on January 13. This will end at 3:56 PM the next day, i.e. on January 14. Paush Purnima will be celebrated on January 13. The Maha Kumbh Snan has great significance on this day.
MAKAR SANKRANTI
Devotees will also take the first Amrit Snan of Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. This will be the second day of the Maha Kumbh. On Makar Sankranti, it is considered auspicious to perform tarpan, donate, and engage in other tasks considered to provide peace to the souls of ancestors. This is the reason why people prefer giving donations on Makar Sankranti to free themselves from the debt of their ancestors. Makar Sankranti is also called 'khichdi festival' and Uttarayan. This year, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on January 14.
MAUNI AMAVASYA
According to the Hindu calendar, Mauni Amavasya has religious significance. The Amavasya Tithi of the Krishna Paksha of Magh will begin at 7:35 PM on January 28, 2025, and end at 6:05 PM on January 29. According to the Udaya Tithi, Mauni Amavasya will be celebrated on January 29. On this day, devotees will take the second Amrit Snan, i.e. Shahi Snan, at the Maha Kumbh.
BASANT PANCHAMI
The third 'Shahi Snan' takes place on Basant Panchami. This day marks the arrival of the spring. It is said that after taking the holy dip in the Ganga on this day, devotees are blessed with knowledge and energy by Goddess Saraswati.
MAGHI PURNAMASI
Taking a bath at the Triveni Sangam — the confluence of the Ganges (Ganga), the Yamuna, and the legendary Saraswati River — on the day of Magh Purnima washes away one's sins and brings peace to the mind. This is why people come from far and wide to take a bath at the Maha Kumbh on this day. According to the Panchang (Hindu almanac), the festival of Magh Purnima is on February 12.
MAHA SHIVARATRI
The Maha Kumbh 2025 will conclude on Mahashivratri. According to the Panchang, Mahashivratri will be celebrated on February 26. It is believed that on this day, the last holy bath of the mega festival is taken in the Sangam. The holy dip, along with prayers to Lord Shiv and fast, is considered the final step to attain salvation.
