Viral Post Highlights Workplace Toxicity: Employee Placed On PIP For Refusing To Work During Leave

A new employee faced toxic management, denied proper leave, was unfairly placed on a PIP, sparking viral outrage and calls for accountability on Reddit.

The workplace toxicity is one of the most common topics which is at most of the workplace, and last year the case of one EY employee who died shook everyone. But still many workplaces are not affected by that. And in another case an alarming story of workplace mistreatment faced by a newly hired employee that went viral across networks.

Upon its posting on Reddit the story gathered widespread support from users who read about the new employee placed on a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) when he reached barely five months at work.

According to the Redditor, the ordeal began when he joined a company with a ‘6-day working’ system. The employee revealed that the manager expected staff to work Sundays as well, stating, “My manager has expectations that we spend 5-6 hours on Sundays as well to meet the very rigid deadlines that have been set for us."

The employee experience worsened after seeking four days off which required ongoing dialogue before finally obtaining approval. After receiving formal approval for time off the supervisor demanded the employee to continue working outside his scheduled days off. After the employee explained he could not do what the manager requested the manager replied "I'd like to see that" in a short sharp manner.

After his leave the employee witnessed his manager completely modify his interactions with others. During the same afternoon the employee received a call from HR who notified him about his unsatisfactory assessment which resulted in his PIP implementation.

Sharing his disbelief, the employee wrote, “All this just because I refused to work during my leaves. This is just so messed up that I can’t understand how it can legally even happen. Do organisations have such power that they can do whatever they feel they can? As an employee, do I not have any legal recourse to deal with such harassment and toxicity being spewed by this company?"

One of the Redditors in the comments section said “Name and shame such company and that shitty manager. Those managers deserve a full chappal shot. I wish that the manager would get fired too and beg for a job.”

Whereas another said, “Nothing will ever work, Your Hierarchy is flawed and people are already slaves. They don't want you to disrupt their flow and chain of so called command.

For your own benefit. Start looking out for better opportunity where you can breathe and have some value as human. About your PIP, perform as usual. Let you family know about your situation and even if they let you go, Go out with Head Raised High. You'll definitely find a better opportunity sooner or later.”
