Here's Why Apple Is Stepping Up Hiring of Generative AI Experts

Apple has ramped up hiring machine learning (ML) specialists amid rumours of stepping up work on AI.

Apple has ramped up hiring machine learning (ML) specialists "passionate about building extraordinary autonomous systems". The company is also hiring for positions in the Integrated System Experience, Input Experience NLP, Machine Learning R&D as well as Technology Development Group, says a report by MacRumors.

There are rumours that the iPhone maker has stepped up work on artificial intelligence (AI), with rival Google already having launched Bard and OpenAI's ChatGPT going viral a few months back.

Some of the roles at Apple, such as a Visual Generative Modeling Research Engineer, specifically involve work on "visual generative modeling to power applications across computation photography, image and video editing, 3D shape and motion reconstruction, avatar generation, and much more", the MacRumors report added.

This comes days after OpenAI's highly popular AI-powered tool, ChatGPT became available for iOS. The company, headquartered in San Francisco, has officially launched the ChatGPT app for iOS in the US, with plans to expand its availability to other countries in the near future. OpenAI claims that the app provides seamless synchronisation of user history across devices and incorporates the latest enhancements of the OpenAI model.

The app offers instant responses that provide accurate information without the inconvenience of advertisements or multiple search results. It caters to a wide range of interests and needs, including personalised advice on travel, do-it-yourself projects, cooking, and crafts.

However, the iPhone maker has restricted the use of OpenAI-owned ChatGPT for several of its employees, the Wall Street Journal reported last week, citing people familiar with the matter.

The company's decision comes amid concerns about employees leaking confidential data and AI platforms collecting sensitive information.
