Bihar Flood News: Ganga Swells Across Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Patna and Munger as Villages Face Rising Waters
Bihar is witnessing a worsening flood situation as the Ganga continues to rise across several districts, affecting thousands of people and threatening homes, villages, roads and vital infrastructure. In Bhagalpur’s Naugachia, the Ganga is flowing above the danger mark, with severe erosion reported in low-lying areas. Raghopur village has been inundated, while the river’s powerful current has reportedly swallowed two century-old temples and several houses. More than 70 years old, a railway line in the area is also facing a growing threat as the river current reaches closer to the tracks, while around 200 metres of an embankment has reportedly been washed away. Authorities are working on an emergency basis, placing sand-filled bags along vulnerable stretches to control erosion and protect embankments. In Vaishali’s Raghopur, the situation is also critical as water spreads rapidly across low-lying and diara areas. The water level near Kachhi Dargah and the Bidupur six-lane Ganga Bridge was reported at 50.36 metres against a danger mark of 48.60 metres. Patna has also seen flooding in several lower-lying areas, with residents being moved to safer locations by boats and relief camps set up for affected families. In Munger, the Ganga is reportedly flowing around three centimetres above the danger mark, prompting the district administration to restrict public access to river ghats and advise people to stay away from swollen rivers and streams. The rising water has also created safety concerns for devotees visiting the Ganga on Krishna Janmashtami, with locals being urged to avoid entering deeper waters because of strong currents and hidden dangers. The continuing rise in the Ganga has put multiple Bihar districts on alert, with flood-affected families shifting towards higher ground as authorities monitor the situation.
