BJP Fields Mohan George For Nilambur Assembly Bypoll in Kerala

BJP has named Advocate Mohan George as its candidate for the Nilambur bypoll in Kerala, following the resignation of former MLA P. V. Anvar.

In a strategic move ahead of the Nilambur Assembly constituency by-election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Advocate Mohan George as its candidate. George, a former leader of the Kerala Congress, is expected to bring significant political experience to the contest.

The bypoll in Nilambur, located in Malappuram district, was necessitated by the resignation of P. V. Anvar, who vacated the seat on January 13, 2025. Anvar, initially elected as an independent candidate supported by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), later joined the Trinamool Congress.

The Nilambur constituency has historically been a competitive seat, with various parties vying for dominance. In the 2021 assembly elections, P. V. Anvar secured victory as an independent candidate. The upcoming bypoll is expected to be a closely watched contest, with major political fronts, including the LDF and the United Democratic Front (UDF), preparing to field strong candidates.

Yesterday too the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has finalized its candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Ludhiana West Assembly constituency of Punjab. After extensive deliberation, the party has announced Jivan Gupta as its official nominee. Gupta is a senior BJP leader in Punjab, a former state general secretary, and currently a member of the BJP Punjab core group.

Jivan Gupta has played an active role in the party’s organizational structure and has long been regarded as a key figure within the Punjab unit. His name had earlier surfaced among the probable candidates for the Ludhiana West seat.

The by-election for the Ludhiana West Assembly constituency is scheduled to be held on June 19, 2025, with the results to be announced on June 23. The nomination process began on May 26 and will continue until June 2. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 3, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until June 5.

Following the polling on June 19, the counting of votes on June 23 will reveal who will become the new MLA for Ludhiana West. The seat became vacant following the untimely demise of sitting MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi.
