UAE 10 League 2018: Fresh corruption cases registered after season conclusion

Soon after the conclusion, several reports of corruption popped up which has now become a huge concern for the organisers

The 2nd season of the UAE T10 League turned out to be a huge success. After receiving the approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC), it featured a big pool of international stars who provided an unmatched experience of rapid-fast cricket. But soon after the conclusion, several reports of corruption popped up which has now become a huge concern for the organisers.

According to an India Today report, one of the support staffs of the Bengal Tigers franchise was approached during the second week of the league and tried to make contact with the players.

“A person claiming to be a potential sponsor approached the support staff. He soon began to seek direct contact with players with a possible agenda of seeking information. The matter was immediately reported to the Anti-corruption unit who took care of the case,” India Today quoted a source as saying.

Another incident happened during the tournament where a different franchise involved. “It first appeared as a possible honey trap but after investigations turned out to be a false alarm,” the source added.

After such corruption cases surfaced, league’s chairman Shaji ul Mulk said the entire ICC ACU has been outsourced and with each team has an ICC Anti-Corruption integrity officer. “We strive to make this league where corruption can be checked at every step,” said Mulk.

Earlier in the previous edition, former Sri Lankan all-rounder Dilhara Lokuhettige was charged with violation of Emirates Cricket Board following which he was provisionally suspended.
