On This Day In 2010: Steve Smith Made His Debut In Test Cricket

The highly unorthodox but effective Smith is considered as one of the modern-day stalwarts in international cricket.

In the last decade, Steven Smith has emerged as one of the most dependable and effective batsmen for the Australian cricket team.

Smith is currently the number one ranked ICC Test batsman with 911 points and is closely followed by India skipper Virat Kohli with 886 points.

It was on July 13, 2010, when Steven Smith made his debut in Test format as he played his first against Pakistan at the Lord's Cricket Ground.

The now 31-year-old did not manage to score just 13 runs combined in both the innings with the bat. He had picked three wickets in the second innings with the ball.

It was Australia's iconic batsman and the then captain Ricky Ponting who handed the "Baggy Green" to right-handed batsman Smith, who used to be a spinner who could bat.
