Mitchell Marsh has flown home due to family reasons. Marsh is the 2nd player in two days to be ruled out for Australia's AUS vs ENG World Cup fixture with Glenn Maxwell also out due to an injury.

Cricket Australia is yet to give an official update on when Mitchell Marsh is expected to join the Australian contingent in India for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

In Mitch Marsh's absence, Steve Smith is expected to return to his regular number 3 slot in the batting order with David Warner and Travis Head in the opening roles for the team.

In Australia's last ODI World Cup match against New Zealand, after Travis Head made his comeback, Mitchell Marsh was batting at number three, forcing Smith to bat down the order at number four.

Earlier, Australia's in-form all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the team after suffering an injury in a golf-cart accident.

With both their all-rounders Mitch and Maxwell out, Australia now hopes for Marcus Stoinis to recover from his calf injury and fill in the vacant all-rounder role in the Australian cricket team.
