YouTube Premium Tests New Feature: Sleep Timer Feature To Automatically Pause Playback

YouTube while describing the feature said, “Sleep Timer lets you set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time.”

YouTube is reportedly testing a new feature that will let users pause video playback automatically in case they plan to fall asleep while watching a video. This new feature for premium users  only, known as 'Dubbed Sleep Timer', is an experimental feature that will be available for a limited duration. YouTube will then take a call on whether it will roll out this feature globally or not.

As per reports, the video streaming giant is also testing a new AI tool that is going to be powered by Gemini. This new AI-backed feature will allow content creators to generate video outlines based on text prompts as well as video title and thumbnail suggestions.

YouTube's Upcoming Feature: Sleep Timer Feature

YouTube in a post on its website announced the availability of the Sleep Timer feature. While describing this feature, YouTube said, “Sleep Timer lets you set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time.”

Using the Sleep Timer feature on YouTube is simple. Users can open the YouTube app on their smartphone or use the web client on their phone or desktop. While playing a video, they can access the settings menu by clicking the gear icon in the top right corner of the video interface. The user must be logged into their account to use this feature.

Within the settings menu, the Sleep Timer offers options to pause playback after 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. There’s also an option to stop auto playback once the video ends. Currently, this feature is only available to YouTube Premium users.

As an experimental feature, users must manually enable experimental features before accessing the Sleep Timer. YouTube Premium users can do this by going to Settings on the home page and selecting "try experimental new features." Keep in mind that this feature is available only until September 2.

The Sleep Timer is a handy addition for those who like to watch videos before bed but want to avoid having the video play all night or draining their device's battery.
