WhatsApp New Feature: 'Draft' Indicator For Managing Unfinished Messages Arrives

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the feature on his WhatsApp channel, calling it something “we all need."

WhatsApp, the globally popular instant messaging platform owned by Meta, has introduced a new feature called Message Drafts, aimed at helping users handle incomplete messages more effectively. In an official press release, WhatsApp announced that this feature was designed to simplify the process of finding and finishing unsent messages. When a user leaves a message unfinished, the app will now mark it with a "Draft" label, making it easy to identify.

Additionally, the chat containing the incomplete message will be automatically moved to the top of the inbox, ensuring it doesn’t get lost among other conversations. This update is particularly useful for situations where users might get interrupted, distracted, or forget to send a message, allowing them to resume their communication seamlessly and save time.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the feature on his WhatsApp channel, calling it something “we all need.” The rollout of the Draft indicator has begun globally and is being introduced across both Android and iOS platforms. This update is expected to enhance user convenience by improving how messages are managed within the app.

Other New Features

In addition to Message Drafts, WhatsApp recently launched a Lists feature earlier this month to improve inbox organisation. This tool allows users to create customised filters to group conversations into categories such as family, work, or neighbourhood chats. When a specific category is selected, only the contacts within that group are displayed in the inbox, helping users focus on relevant conversations without unnecessary clutter.

Furthermore, WhatsApp offers chat filters, which were rolled out earlier this year, to streamline message management even further. These preset filters allow users to sort conversations into predefined categories like unread chats, group messages, and a customisable favourites list. Users who prefer to view everything at once can use the “All” tab, which displays every chat in their inbox.

Together, these features highlight WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to improving user experience and providing tools that help users better organise their conversations. With Message Drafts, Lists, and chat filters, WhatsApp continues to make strides in ensuring its platform remains user-friendly and efficient for its millions of users worldwide.
