After 'Minor Glitch', CoWIN Portal Starts Taking Registrations; 75 Lakh Adults Sign Up Within Hours

The CoWIN app, however, to the disappointment of many is still not accepting registrations from those below 45 years of age as they say that no OTP is received on their cell phones when they attempt to register for the vaccination.

New Delhi: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government all set to launch of the third phase of the Covid-19 immunization drive from May 1, the people who are 18 years of age and above can register themselves for the vaccine beginning today on the CoWin platform cowin.gov.in, the Aarogya Setu app and Umang App.

The CoWIN app, however, to the disappointment of many is still not accepting registrations from those below 45 years of age as they say that no OTP is received on their cell phones when they attempt to register for the vaccination.

According to latest reports, the vaccine registration app is now working fine and as many as 75 lakh registrations were made within hours after signing up was open for adults.

The CEO of MyGov.in Abhishek Singh claimed that CoWIN platform recieved almost 434 million API in the last few hours.

This comes even as the Centre had earlier announced that the CoWIN app and Aarogya Setu app would be opened for all citizens above 18 years of age for the vaccination drive beginning May 1.

“The #COVIDVaccine registrations for people above 18 years will start at 4PM today (28th Apr) through http://cowin.gov.in, UMANG & Aarogya Setu App. Appointments can be booked according to the slots available at the state Govt. & private vaccination centers. #IndiaFightsCorona,” MyGovIndia posted on its official Twitter handle on Tuesday.

The people are, however, not able to get themselves registered for the vaccination on the CoWIN app as it shows error when they try to do so.

“The page is not opening. It is shown server is facing problem,” said a user on the micro-blogging platform.

“Government should check before approving such stupid app ..it doesnt work at all... I have tried so many times to login but haven't got a single OTP.. How will this app ease our problems? It's just created to frustrate us to death,” posted another.

The people are facing similar problems when trying to register through Aarogya Setu, which the Centre’s mobile application for contact tracing and dissemination of medical advisories to contain spread of COVID-19.

“What is this,” posted a user with an emoticon.

“Just tried it its still saying that "only 45 or above are eligible,” wrote another.

The government, however, admitted that there was a minor glitch that has been fixed, adding the 18 plus can register.

“Cowin Portal is working. There was a minor glitch at 4 PM that was fixed. 18 plus can register,” Aarogya Setu posted on its Twitter handle.
