BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar Alleges Attack By TMC Workers In Bengal's Nadia, Mamata's Party Refutes Allegations

Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, alleged that two BJP workers were injured in an attack by the TMC in the Canning area of South 24 Parganas district.

New Delhi: BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar on Sunday alleged that his vehicle was attacked by TMC cadres while he was on his way to a religious function in West Bengal's Nadia district. Sarkar, who has been re-nominated by the BJP for the upcoming polls, claimed that he was rescued by his security guards and party workers during the incident in the Chakdaha area.

Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, alleged that two BJP workers were injured in an attack by the TMC in the Canning area of South 24 Parganas district. However, the ruling party in the state refuted these claims, attributing the violent incidents to factional disputes within the BJP, reported PTI.

While police confirmed a minor scuffle between supporters of the BJP and Trinamool Congress in the Chakdaha area, they reported no major injuries. "We are looking into the matter. However, neither side has filed any official complaint so far", an officer of Chakdaha police station said.

TMC Spreading Fear

Sarkar accused TMC-supported individuals of trying to spread fear among people of the area and criticised the police for their alleged failure to ensure security. On the other hand, Adhikari claimed that two BJP workers, identified as Bivas Mondal and Subrata Das, were gravely injured in an attack purportedly orchestrated by local TMC leader Hossain Sheikh in Canning.

"Bloodshed returns to Bengal politics before Lok Sabha elections. BJP4Bengal Karyakartas of Canning Purba assembly (seat) have been brutally attacked and assaulted by TMC goons.Hossain Sheikh, close aide of Canning Purba MLA Saokat Molla, whose reputation is akin to Shajahan Sheikh of Sandeshkhali, has perpetrated the heinous crime", Adhikari said in an X.

He also said that several of his party workers, including Bivas Mondal and Subrata Das, secretary and mandal president of Canning Purba Mandal no. 3, respectively, were critically injured. "They have been admitted to Canning Sub Divisional Hospital for immediate medical attention", he added.

Kunal Ghosh Dismissed The Allegations

Dismissing the allegations, senior TMC leader Kunal Ghosh asserted that the incidents were result of infighting within the BJP. He refuted Jagannath Sarkar's statements regarding the Ranaghat incident, labeling them as a desperate ploy by the BJP to deflect blame onto the Trinamool Congress, as per PTI.

"Let him first settle the squabbles within his own party. The TMC does not believe in attacking its political opponents", he said.
On the violence in Canning, he claimed that it was also a factional fight within the BJP.
