IPL Playoff Race On Fire! Battle For Top 4 Intensifies

At present, five teams — Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants — have 6 points each.

IPL 2025 is in full swing, and the competition is getting tighter with every match. Most teams have played between 3 to 5 games, and the points table is shifting dramatically after each result.

While it's still early to make definitive playoff predictions, some teams are already under pressure. A few more losses could severely hurt their chances of finishing in the top 4.

Five Teams hold strong position

At present, five teams — Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants — have 6 points each. Out of these, four teams occupy the top spots on the table. If they can maintain momentum and avoid consecutive defeats, their playoff hopes remain bright.

Tough road ahead for MI, CSK, and SRH

Three high-profile franchises are facing an uphill battle. Mumbai Indians (led by Hardik Pandya), Chennai Super Kings (under Ruturaj Gaikwad), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (captained by Pat Cummins) have played 5 matches and managed just 1 win each. With only 2 points on the board, their playoff chances look slim unless they stage a major comeback.

Each team plays 14 matches in the league stage. With only 9 matches left, these struggling sides will likely need to win at least 7 games to stay in contention.

History says 16 points are key

While teams have occasionally made it to the playoffs with 14 points, it's rare. Generally, 16 points is the safe benchmark, and teams that reach 18 or more are almost guaranteed a top-4 finish.

Expecting a team with 1 win in 5 to suddenly win 7 of their next 9 is a tall ask. Although not impossible, it has only happened a few times in IPL history.

Usually, teams that find rhythm early and sustain form tend to secure playoff spots. With the tournament entering a crucial phase, the pressure is on — and every match could be a turning point.
