'I Will Definitely...': Mohammad Amir On Possible IPL Debut After Getting British Passport In 2024

Mohammad Amir had moved to the United Kingdom (UK) in 2020 and remains a year away from acquiring the British passport.

Ever since it came in the public forum that former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir might get a British passport soon, fans have started to wonder whether he will get to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, while players from Pakistan are not allowed to compete in the cash-rich league, a British passport may change things for Amir who got married to Narjis Khan, a British citizen and lawyer in 2016.

Amir had moved to the United Kingdom (UK) in 2020 and remains a year away from acquiring the British passport. And thus the question of his potential IPL debut has once again resurfaced. And now the former Pakistani fast bowler has himself shared his views on the issue.

"I have one year. I don't know what would be the scenario. I always move step by step. I don't know where I will be after a year. Nobody knows the future. When I get the passport, I will definitely avail the best opportunity I get," Amir told ARY News.

It is pertinent to note that the Pakistan players did take part in the inaugural season of the league in 2008. However, due to the tensed political relationship between the two neighbouring countries, Pakistan players have been barred from taking part in the T20 competition.

Having said that Amir did make it clear that he has no intention of coming back to international cricket and donning the England jersey.

"I won't play for England. I have already played international cricket, whatever I had to play, for Pakistan," the 31-year-old said.

However, he had expressed his desire to return for Pakistan. He had called time on his international career citing the bad treatement received from the then team management. However, things have changed in Pakistan Cricket since then and it would be interesting to see if the left-arm seamer does consider making himself available for selection for Pakistan.
