BCCI Suspends IPL 2021 Season Indefinitely Amid Rising Covid Cases In Bio-Bubble

IPL 2021 Suspended: BCCI on Tuesday announced to suspended IPL 2021 for this season due to rising Covid-19 concerns. As stated by BCCI, the decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind. As per the announcement, players will go back home to their families. 

IPL 2021: BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla on Tuesday announced to suspended IPL 2021 for this season due to rising Covid-19 concerns in the bio-bubble.  The decision has come after several players reported to be infected with the novel Coronavirus. 

In an official statement, BCCI said, "The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting has unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect."

News agency ANI confirmed the development quoting BCCI's vice-president Rajeev Shukla who reportedly said, "IPL has been suspended, we will see whether we can reschedule it, it is not cancelled. It is just suspended for now." 

As stated by BCCI, the decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind. As per the announcement, players will go back home to their families. 

Earlier today, wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha of SunRisers Hyderabad camp tested positive of Covid-19. SRH Management confirmed that Saha was the lone person in the SRH unit to have tested positive following which the the entire team was placed under isolation. The Hyderbad team was scheduled to lock horns with Mumbai Indians today.

On Monday, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier of Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp tested positive for the virus in Ahmedabad. 

Within hours, reports emerged suggesting that three members of the Chennai Super Kings - chief executive officer Kasi Viswanathan, a bus cleaner and bowling coach L Balaji also contracted the novel Coronavirus.
