Stay Strong Skipper: Wasim Akram Tweets After Imran Khan's Arrest

Imran Khan was arrested from outside the Islamabad high court (IHC) on May 9 (Tuesday)

Former Pakistan men's national cricket team captain and Prime Minister, Imran Khan, was arrested inside the Islamabad High Court premises prior to two of his hearings on May 9 (Tuesday). The Parliamentary Forces took the 70-year-old into custody regarding the Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan is facing allegations of corrupt practices under Section 9 (a) of the National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.

According to report by Dawn, the PTI chairman was taken into custody by Rangers outside the court, where he had gone to seek bail in multiple FIRs registered against him. Khan was scheduled to appear before the Islamabad High Court in a mutiny case and another pertaining to charges of attempted murder.

And now Khan's former national teammate Wasim Akram has spoken in his support. Taking to Twitter, the ex-pacer wrote: "You are one man, but you have the strength of millions. Stay strong skipper . #BehindYouSkipper."

Notably, Imran Khan remains the only captain of the cricket team to have led them the country to an ODI World Cup win. He led the Men in Green to a victory in the 1992 edition of the 50 Overs World Cup. The captain, apart from his leadership skills, also played a pivotal role as an all-rounder in that edition of the competition, scoring 185 runs as well as chipping in with seven wickets.

However, it was Akram who was adjudged the Player of the Match in the team's World Cup final against England which was staged at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Before, his contribution with the ball, the soutpaw had scored 33 off 18 before coming back to pick 3 wickets for 49 runs.

Captain Khan was in pretty good form too in that match and top-scored with 72 runs and dimissed England's number 11 Richard Illingworth to seal a 22-run win, a historic win for Pakistan. Post that, their other big moment came in 2009 when the Younis Khan-led contingent won the 2009 T20 World Cup.
