Background

Imran Khan Arrest News Live: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been arrested from outside the Islamabad high court (IHC). According to report by Dawn, the PTI chairman was taken into custody by Rangers outside the court, where he had gone to seek bail in multiple FIRs registered against him. On Wednesday, he appeared before the special court in Islamabad amid calls for protest in the capital city by his supporters.

Khan was scheduled to appear before the Islamabad High Court in a mutiny case and another pertaining to charges of attempted murder.

PTI vice-president Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that the IHC has been "occupied by the Rangers" and lawyers "are being subjected to torture". In another tweet, Fawad alleged that Imran had been "abducted" from the court premises while score of lawyers and general people had been "tortured".

"Imran Khan has been whisked away by unknown people to an unknown location," he said.

Reuters quoted a witness as saying that shortly after Imran entered the gate of the IHC, contingents of paramilitary forces and armoured personnel carriers entered after him. The gate was blocked by the armoured vehicles while Khan was whisked away shortly after under heavy security, the witness added.

PTI leaders said the Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has asked the Islamabad police chief, the interior ministry secretary, and the additional attorney general to appear before the court within 15 minutes, as reported by the Dawn and has asked them to tell the court why Khan was arrested. “Come to court and tell us why has Imran been arrested and in which case,” Justice Farooq said as reported by the publication.

The arrest warrant of Imran Khan was issued by NAB Rawalpindi on May 1st and has been executed by Rangers in Islamabad today.

The Islamabad police said that Section 144 has been imposed in the national capital. "There is no case on me. They want to put me in jail, I am ready for it," said former Pakistan PM and PTI chief Imran Khan before his arrest.
