South Africa continue run fest, post 369 for 6 in final ODI

South Africa scored its highest total against Bangladesh, posting 369 for 6 in the final one-day international on Sunday led by 91 from captain Faf du Plessis.

East London: South Africa scored its highest total against Bangladesh, posting 369 for 6 in the final one-day international on Sunday led by 91 from captain Faf du Plessis.

Seeking a 3-0 series whitewash, South Africa passed 350 for the second straight game against Bangladesh. Aiden Markram made 66 from 60 balls on his ODI debut after openers Quinton de Kock (73) and the recalled Temba Bavuma (48) put on 119 for the first wicket.

South Africa stuttered in the middle overs with the wickets of AB de Villiers, Andile Phehlukwayo and Wiaan Mulder, another player on debut, falling in quick succession.

But the Proteas had a strong finish to match their strong start at Buffalo Park, with Kagiso Rabada unleashing some big shots — and three fours and a six — for his 23 not out from 11 balls. Farhaan Behardien was 33 not out from 24 balls.

Du Plessis was impressive with 10 fours and a six in his 91 from just 67 deliveries but was forced to retire hurt nine short of a century after sustaining what appeared to be a lower back injury while running between the wickets. He had to be helped from the field. Accoring to reports, he will not take any further part in the third ODI.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 2/59 on his return to the Bangladesh team and Taskin Ahmed 2/66. Bangladesh is searching for a first win on its tour of South Africa having lost the test series 2-0 and gone down 2-0 in the ODIs.

South Africa used the dead rubber to rest frontline batsmen Hashim Amla and JP Duminy.
