Rishabh Pant Smashes Century With A Six, Breaks Dhoni's 12-Year-Old Record

It was a fitting way for the aggressive left-hander to reach his first Test hundred of 2025 — with a shot that echoed his fearless batting style.

Rishabh Pant lit up Headingley with a brilliant century, continuing his love affair with English conditions.

Making a strong statement in his first Test as India’s vice-captain, Pant brought up his seventh Test century, surpassing MS Dhoni’s record for the most hundreds by an Indian wicketkeeper in Test cricket.

Century in Signature Style

Pant, who was unbeaten on 65 at stumps on Day 1, resumed on Day 2 with his trademark attacking approach. Facing Shoaib Bashir, he struck a boundary and then launched a towering six to bring up his century in 139 balls.

It was a fitting way for the aggressive left-hander to reach his first Test hundred of 2025 — with a shot that echoed his fearless batting style.

Record-Breaking Moment

With this innings, Pant has now become the Indian wicketkeeper with the most Test centuries, overtaking MS Dhoni’s previous tally. His authoritative knock also adds to his growing reputation as one of India’s best-ever wicketkeeper-batters in red-ball cricket.

Strong Partnership with Gill

Pant was well supported by captain Shubman Gill, who played a steady hand at the other end. While Gill anchored the innings, Pant took the attack to the bowlers, leaving England’s attack short of answers.

Together, the pair not only rebuilt the innings but also put India in a commanding position — with Pant’s landmark century being the standout moment.

Rishabh Pant’s Test Career

Rishabh Pant has emerged as one of India's most impactful wicketkeeper-batsmen in Test cricket. In 44 Test matches, he has amassed 4157 runs* at an impressive average of 43.73, including 7 centuries — the most by any Indian wicketkeeper in the format.

Most Test Centuries by Indian Wicketkeepers: Rishabh Pant – 7, MS Dhoni – 6, Wriddhiman Saha – 3

With his latest hundred, Pant has surpassed MS Dhoni to top this elite list.

A Specialist in Foreign Conditions

What sets Pant apart is his consistency overseas. His 7 centuries are spread across: 3 in England, 1 in Australia, 1 in South Africa, 2 in India.

His ability to score in challenging overseas conditions has made him a standout performer in India’s Test lineup, often turning matches with his fearless and counter-attacking style.
