Mohammed Shami Stood On 19th Floor Balcony As He Contemplated Suicide: Fast Bowler's Friend Makes Startling Revelation

Mohammed Shami Stood On 19th Floor Balcony As He Contemplated Suicide: The Indian speedster's friend has made a startling revealation.

Mohammed Shami is surely one of India's greatest match-winners. Across formats, Shami has been more than a handy. He has not only helped India win the Test series in Australia but was part of the bowling attack that pushed England and South Africa on the backfoot on their home conditions.

Be in the 2015 ODI World Cup, 2019 or the 2023- who was India's leading wicket taker? The answer is Mohammed Shami again. He is the fastest Indian to breach the 100-wicket mark in ODI cricket and has the most number of successive four-wicket hauls in the format.

Despite such highs of international cricket, there has been a low in his personal and professional life as well with a turmoil involving his ex-wife Hasin Jahan who even alleged that the cricketer fixed matches.

Jahan even registered a police complaint against Shami for domestic violence. The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) even upheld Shami's central contract for a while in what was a dark phase of his career.

Mohammed Shami's Friend Recalls Longest Night Of Shami's Career

"Shami was fighting with everything during that phase. He lived with me in my house. But when the fixing allegations with Pakistan broke, and led to a probe that night, he was shattered. He said that I can tolerate everything but not allegations of betraying my country," Umesh Kumar, Shami's friend, said on Shubhankar Mishra's podcast 'Unplugged'.

"It also came in the news that he wanted to do something drastic that night [end his life]. It was around 4 AM in the morning when I got up to drink water. I was on my way to the kitchen when I saw that he was standing on the balcony. It was the 19th floor we were living in. I understood what happened. That night of Shami's career, I feel, was the longest. Later, one day, when we were talking, he got a message on his phone saying he got a clean chit from the committee that was investigating the matter. He was probably happier that day than he would have been if he had won a World Cup," he added.
