Mohammed Shami Returns To Bowling In Nets After Lengthy Injury Layoff. WATCH

Mohammed Shami will require approval from Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA) to make a comeback to competitive cricket.

Senior pacer Mohammed Shami is progressing well in his recovery from injury and has resumed bowling in the nets. The veteran pacer sustained an injury after last year's ODI World Cup and has been absent from the national team since then. He underwent surgery on his Achilles tendon last year and is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, under the supervision of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Unfortunately, due to the injury, Shami had to miss IPL 2024 and was unable to participate in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

When will Mohammed Shami return to competitive cricket?

Mohammed Shami will require approval from Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy (NCA) to make a comeback to competitive cricket. Speculations suggest that the 33-year-old pacer could potentially return to the Indian team for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. India is set to host Bangladesh for a home series featuring two Tests and three T20 matches scheduled for September-October.

Mohammed Shami, India's highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cup 2023

Shami emerged as India's top wicket-taker during last year's ODI World Cup in India, securing 24 wickets in seven matches. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury earlier this year, ruling him out of the five-match Test series against England. This injury also forced him to withdraw from India's subsequent series against South Africa. Despite Shami's absence, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh performed commendably during the T20 World Cup, collectively taking 32 wickets for the team.
