Missed chances in field cost us dearly: Dhawan
Opener Shikhar Dhawan acknowledged that the poor fielding and many missed opportunities cost India the match
After suffering a narrow four-run loss against Australia in the opening T20I at the Gabba, Opener Shikhar Dhawan acknowledged that the poor fielding and many missed opportunities cost India the match.
"Of course those things have an impact," Dhawan said after the game. "We conceded a few more runs. I knew we had to get some big overs and I was trying that when I got out. I enjoyed batting out there.
"It was a good game. It was a very close match. We got a lot of confidence out of this game and we'll take it forward in the next game."
While skipper Kohli dropped Aaron Finch early, Glenn Maxwell hammered a brilliant 46 runs off 24 balls. However, the much more crucial moment of the game came in the 12th over when when KL Rahul and Khaleel Ahmed together botched up a run-out chance against Marcus Stoinis.
Despite Dhawan’s 76 off 42 balls in the run chase, India still finished agonizingly short on 169 for seven.
"We've played here before. The experience helps. It was nice to see Rishabh do well especially in Brisbane because we get more bounce here. This was the first game but we adjusted well. But Zampa had an influence on the game."
Before the final game of the series in Sydney on November 25, India will take on Australia in Melbourne on November 23, where both the teams will play the second T20I.
