Chamoli: Cloudburst Triggers Flash Flood, Massive Iron Bridge Swept Away

Heavy monsoon rains have triggered flash floods and widespread destruction across several parts of India. In Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, a cloudburst caused the Tamak Nala to swell, washing away a heavy iron bridge and vehicles. Road connectivity beyond Malari towards the Niti Valley has been disrupted, affecting more than 17 villages. Rescue teams from the police, SDRF and NDRF are searching for a BRO personnel reportedly missing after a vehicle was swept away. Authorities have warned people to stay away from rivers and streams. In Madhya Pradesh, the Betwa River has risen sharply in Vidisha, while floodwaters trapped 17 people, who were later rescued safely. Several areas in Agar-Malwa and other districts have also reported waterlogging and flooding. In Uttar Pradesh, the Ganga is causing severe erosion in Farrukhabad, swallowing houses. Rajasthan has also witnessed intense flooding, with roads turning into rivers and vehicles being swept away. Authorities across affected states are monitoring the situation and urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
