IPL 2025 Playoffs: Four Teams Staring At Early Exit

MI and CSK - two of the most decorated teams in IPL history with a combined ten titles - now find themselves in must-win territory.

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has reached its halfway point, with all teams except Delhi Capitals (DC) having played six or more matches.

The playoff race is heating up, with five teams - Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants - all tied at eight points and currently leading the charge for the top four spots.

Playoff Trouble for MI, CSK, RR & SRH

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Chennai Super Kings are in a precarious position with just four points each.

Surprisingly, Mumbai and Chennai - two of the most decorated teams in Indian Premier League (IPL) history with a combined ten titles - now find themselves in must-win territory. If they hope to stay in IPL 2025 playoff hunt, a sharp turnaround and a bit of good fortune will be crucial in the coming matches.

The IPL 2025 season will see a total of 74 matches, where every win will carry immense value for teams aiming to secure a playoff spot. As the tournament progresses, the Net Run Rate (NRR) will become increasingly important - especially if teams are tied on points at the end of the league stage.

What determines Playoff Qualification?

Each team will play 14 matches in the league phase. The top four teams on the points table will advance to IPL playoffs. With the final set to be played on May 25, the points table is expected to fluctuate with each passing match, making the playoff race even more exciting and unpredictable.

IPL Points Table

The latest IPL 2025 clash took place on Tuesday, April 15, between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Mullanpur stadium. In a low-scoring thriller, Punjab Kings managed to pull off a stunning 16-run win, climbing into the top four of the points table.

1. Gujarat Titans – 4 wins, 2 losses, 8 points

2. Delhi Capitals – 4 wins, 1 loss, 8 points

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore – 4 wins, 2 losses, 8 points

4. Punjab Kings – 4 wins, 2 losses, 8 points
