Sunil Gavaskar Picks India Playing XI For World Test Championship Final Against Australia

Sunil Gavaskar surprisingly picked both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in India's WTC Final playing XI along with three fast bowlers.

IND vs AUS WTC Final: Team India will square off against Australia in World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final on Wednesday (June 7) at the Kennington Oval. Ahead of the high-octane IND vs AUS WTC Final clash, ex-India skipper Sunil Gavaskar, one of the most respected voices in international cricket, picked his preferred playing XI for India against Australia for the summit clash. "I will talk about the batting and that will be Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as one-two. No. 3 is (Cheteshwar) Pujara, No. 4 is (Virat) Kohli, No. 5 is Ajinkya Rahane," Gavaskar said.

Instead of going with popular choice Ishan Kishan as the wicketkeeper, Gavaskar picked KS Bharath, who has played only 4 Tests for India so far. Ishan Kishan is yet to make his India debut. The veteran selected Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as openers. In this sequence, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli have been picked to bat at number 3 and number 4. Ajinkya Rahane, making a comeback to the Test team, has been picked as number 5 batsman.

"I would imagine No. 6 would be either (KS) Bharat or Ishan Kishan. They are talking about Bharat because he has played all these matches so far. So will probably stick with Bharat at six," he added.

Gavaskar surprisingly picked both Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin in India's WTC Final playing XI along with three fast bowlers - Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur.

"No. 7 will be (Ravindra) Jadeja. If it's a bright day and a bright prediction, then I think you are looking at Jadeja and (Ravichandran) Ashwin at No. 7 and No. 8," the former India skipper said. "No. 9, 10 and 11 will be Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj and maybe Shardul Thakur."

Sunil Gavaskar's predicted XI for WTC Final: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur
