India's Winless Grounds: Five Test Venues Where India Is Yet To Register A Win

These five venues have historically been difficult for India in the longest format of the game.

The second Test of the ongoing India vs England series began on July 2 at Edgbaston, Birmingham—a venue where India’s Test record is far from impressive. In fact, India has never won a Test match at this historic ground. But Edgbaston isn’t the only venue where the Men in Blue have struggled.

Here’s a look at five international Test venues where India has played at least five matches but has never secured a win.

Old Trafford, Manchester (England)

Tests Played: 9, Record: 0 Wins, 5 Draws, 4 Losses

Old Trafford has proven to be a tough venue for India. Despite nine appearances, Team India has never won a single Test here. Most encounters have ended in draws or defeats, keeping a victory elusive to this day.

Edgbaston, Birmingham (England)

Tests Played: 8, Record: 0 Wins, 1 Draw, 7 Losses

India’s struggle at Edgbaston is well-documented. Since their first match here in 1967 under Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s captaincy, India has played eight Tests—losing seven and drawing one. The venue has turned into a fortress for England whenever India tours.

Kensington Oval, Barbados (West Indies)

Tests Played: 9, Record: 0 Wins

The picturesque Kensington Oval in Bridgetown has also never seen an Indian Test win. In nine matches, India has been unable to conquer this Caribbean ground, despite several close contests.

National Stadium, Karachi (Pakistan)

Tests Played: 6, Record: 0 Wins

Though bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan has ceased in recent years, India’s past visits to Karachi didn’t yield victories. India played six Test matches at the National Stadium in Karachi and failed to win any of them.

Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore (Pakistan)

Tests Played: 7, Record: 0 Wins

Another Pakistani venue on the list is Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, where India has played seven Tests without a single win. Despite some competitive games in the past, victory has remained out of reach.

These five venues have historically been difficult for India in the longest format of the game.
