David Warner to play for St Lucia Stars in CPL 2018

Warner will return to competitive cricket in Canada's inaugural Global T20 tournament for the Winnipeg Hawks later this month

Banned Australian cricketer David Warner is all set to feature in the forthcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) starting from August 8.

The former Aussie Test vice-captain will be playing for the St. Lucia Stars, the franchise confirmed on Saturday. He has been inducted into the side to replace his fellow big-hitting Australian batsman D’Arcy Short, who was ruled out of this outfit after being called for Australia A’s tour of India.

While announcing the development, St. Lucia Stars’ General Manager Mohammad Khan said, “We are excited to have David in the Saint Lucia Stars. David is arguably one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era and a winning player.”

The month-long CPL will also feature other Australians like all-rounder Shane Watson and Chris Lynn.

Ahead of participating in the star-studded CPL, Warner will return to competitive cricket in Canada's inaugural Global T20 tournament for the Winnipeg Hawks later this month alongside his former skipper Steve Smith.

Following the Cape Town ball tampering saga, Warner, along with Smith and youngster Cameron Bancroft, was slapped with a ban from Cricket Australia. Warner and Smith are suspended from international cricket for 12 months while Bancroft has been banned for 9 months.
