Oils To Offer On The Shivling

Sesame Oil:
Offering sesame oil on the Shivling in Sawan is believed to help devotees overcome physical and mental ailments, as well as various doshas (flaws) and afflictions. According to religious texts, sesame is considered to have originated from Lord Vishnu. When devotees offer black sesame seeds or oil to Lord Shiv, it is said to enhance happiness and prosperity while mitigating the malefic effects of Saturn (Shani).

Sandalwood Oil:
During Sawan, sandalwood oil is another sacred offering made to the Shivling, especially on Mondays. Devotees believe that performing abhishek (ritual bathing) with sandalwood oil pleases Lord Shiv and helps remove planetary obstacles. This ritual is thought to clear hurdles in one’s professional life and bring harmony within family relationships by neutralizing negative planetary influences.

Mustard Oil:
According to scriptures, mustard oil is also offered on the Shivling during Sawan. This offering is believed to pacify enemies and eliminate obstacles created by adversaries. It is also said to reduce the harmful effects of Shani’s Sade Sati and Dhaiya (specific astrological periods). Devotees believe that offering mustard oil invites peace, prosperity, and progress into one’s life.
