Ashish Nehra Refuses Offer To Be India’s Coach For T20Is: Report

As per an Indian Express report, Ashish Nehra has declined the offer extended by the BCCI. Despite the board's efforts to address India's decade-long ICC title drought and prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024, Nehra has opted not to take up the role. (Getty)

The BCCI's interest in Ashish Nehra might have stemmed from his successful coaching tenure with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. During the 2022 season, Nehra guided the team to the championship title, and in the subsequent 2023 edition, they secured a commendable second-place finish. (Getty)

Rohit Sharma, India's captain, and Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selectors, both wanted for Rahul Dravid to continue coaching until the forthcoming T20 World Cup. If Dravid agrees, it's expected to ensure coaching staff continuity, possibly leading to contract extensions for key members like bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and batting coach Vikram Rathour. However, Dravid remains undecided about committing to a long-term coaching role due to the demanding schedule and associated workload. He leans towards a position that doesn't involve extensive travel, possibly opting for a role such as the head of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru or considering opportunities within the IPL.
