Monsoon In India: 9 Killed In Himachal Pradesh, Red Alert Issued For South Gujarat Districts. Top Points

Monsoon hit Himachal Pradesh on June 24 and till now, 9 people have lost their lives and 14 others have been injured, said officials.

New Delhi: The continuous rainfall in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh has led to a flood-like situation in the area which has disrupted the normal life of people. IMD has issued an orange alert and a yellow one for June 28.

Till now, 9 people have lost their lives, 14 injured, 4 houses fully damaged while 28 are partially damaged due to heavy rains. The estimated loss is approximately Rs 104 crores," Principal Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management, Onkar Chand Sharma said, as quoted by ANI.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon covered Gujarat fully on Tuesday, with many areas likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next five days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. “The southwest monsoon has further advanced into most parts of the north Arabian sea, remaining parts of Gujarat and thus covering the entire Gujarat state today, June 27,” the IMD said.  

A “red colour warning” was issued for south Gujarat districts Navsari and Valsad with very heavy rainfall likely in these districts during the next three days, officials said.

  • The meteorology department of Himachal Pradesh has already issued heavy rainfall warnings. "There is a possibility of rain for the next 5 days. Heavy rain alert continues at some places of the state," IMD scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma told ANI.

  • IMD issued an orange alert for heavy rains in Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Pune and Satara on Tuesday. The weather department also issued a 'yellow alert' for Palghar, Mumbai, Thane, and Sindhudurg.

  • Mahesh Palawat, Vice president Meteorology And climate Change in a tweet said that heavy to very rain is possible over Madhya Pradesh, Rajsthan, Gujarat, north coast of Mahasrashtra including Mumbai during next two days. 
  • Kerala has received deficient rainfall so far, according to the India Meteorological Department. The southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala on June 8 - nearly a week after its normal onset date of June 1.

  • A father-son duo got swept away in swollen Kunj Nallah following heavy rainfall in Panjgrain of Ramnagar in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

  • IMD scientist Soma Sen told ANI that leaving some parts of northwest India, the monsoon has impacted almost the entire country. Entire Gujarat and south-east Rajasthan have been covered by the monsoon. In the next two days, it is expected that south Punjab, Haryana and the remaining parts of Rajasthan will be covered.
  • The Chandigarh-Manali national highway was restored for traffic on Monday night after remaining closed for almost 24 hours owing to landslides and flash floods, officials said. Hundreds of commuters, including tourists, were stranded in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district as the highway was blocked since Sunday evening.

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the southwest monsoon further advanced into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, and remaining parts of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
