BJP Postpones Meeting To Finalise Delhi CM, Oath Ceremony Likely On Feb 21

The BJP has postponed its legislature party meeting to Thursday, February 20th. The meeting was originally scheduled for Monday, February 17th.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has postponed its legislature party meeting scheduled for Monday to two days later. Earlier, the party was scheduled to hold the meeting to finalise the name of the Delhi chief minister on Monday, at 3 pm.

However, the meeting has now been postponed and will be held on February 20, Thursday. It was also reported earlier that the oath-taking ceremony for the chief minister could be held on February 19 which has also been postponed and will likely be on February 21.

The decision to postpone the meeting and swearing-in ceremony to a later date was taken in a meeting held by BJP National General Secretary BL Santhosh and attended by Virendra Sachdeva, Pawan Rana and others.

The saffron party won a sweeping majority in Delhi winning 48 of the 70 assembly seats, making a comeback in the capital after 27 years. The party had not announced its CM face during the campaign or after winning the February 5 polls.

Additionally, it was decided that the CM would be chosen after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to France and the US which concluded on Friday.

BJP leaders Parvesh Verma, who defeated former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi seat, Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay are among the frontrunners for the Delhi's top post.

Pawan Sharma, Ashish Sood, Rekha Gupta, and Shikha Rai are among the other contenders for the post of chief minister.

As per reports, the saffron party can also pick a woman to be the next chief minister of Delhi. Neelam Pahalwan, Rekha Gupta, Poonam Sharma and Shikha Roy are among the women BJP legislators who won the polls in the national capital.

The saffron party is planning a grand event for the swearing in ceremony of its chief minister. According to an NDTV report, it has set its eye on Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Over 200 MPs and former MPs of the party along with  Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of all NDA-ruled states are expected to be present at the event, the report added.
