Mahashivratri 2025: The Mahakumbh is now in its final phase, with the last holy bath taking place on Mahashivratri. This sacred festival is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and it is believed that taking a holy dip at a pilgrimage site and worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day helps devotees overcome hardships and brings prosperity.

On February 26, 2025, the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj will conclude with the final snan on Mahashivratri. If you are unable to visit the Mahakumbh for the holy dip, here’s how you can experience the spiritual benefits of the Shahi Snan at home.

Why Is The Final Bath Of Mahakumbh Special?

According to mythological stories, Mahashivratri marks the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. On this sacred day, taking a holy dip at Triveni Sangam or Kashi grants spiritual wisdom, peace, and special blessings from Lord Shiva.

Mahashivratri 2025: Auspicious Bath Timings

  • Brahma Muhurat – 05:09 AM to 05:59 AM (Bathing at Sangam during this time is especially auspicious)
  • Amrit Kaal Muhurat07:28 AM to 09:00 AM
  • Shubh Muhurat11:08 AM to 12:34 PM

Shahi Snan, Not Amrit Snan,

Bathing in the Sangam on Mahashivratri will not be considered an Amrit Snan, as Amrit Snan occurs when the Sun is in Capricorn and Jupiter is in Taurus. However, since the Sun is currently in Aquarius, the Shahi Snan will take place on Mahashivratri.

How To Perform Shahi Snan At Home On Mahashivratri

  • Most people perform Jalabhishek, Rudrabhishek, or other religious rituals for Lord Shiva at home or in temples on Mahashivratri, making it difficult to visit a pilgrimage. In such cases, you can still experience the benefits of the final Shahi Snan of Mahakumbh at home on Mahashivratri.

  • To gain the benefits of the Mahakumbh, you should wake up before sunrise, as the Amrit Snan is performed at this time. Mix a little Ganga water in the bathwater at home and bathe with devotion.
  • During the bath, chant the following mantra with devotion:

"Har Har Gange, Gange Cha Yamune Chaiva, Godavari Saraswati, Narmade Sindhu Kaveri, Jalesmin Sannidhim Kuru."

This mantra invokes the sacred rivers and their divine presence, bringing spiritual merit.

  • After the bath, wear clean clothes and offer water to Lord Sun. Then, perform Abhishek of Lord Shiva with devotion, offering milk, honey, or water, as per your tradition. This helps invoke blessings and spiritual benefits on Mahashivratri.

  • On this day, it is highly auspicious to donate food, money, clothes, rice, milk, curd, ghee, and other essentials to those in need. You can also make donations in the names of your ancestors to seek their blessings and accumulate spiritual merit.
