As Delta Plane Crashes In Toronto, A Look At Some Of The Deadliest Crashes In 2025

According to the US' National Transportation Safety Board, there have been 87 aviation accidents this year, including 13 fatal incidents.

A Delta Airlines plane, with 80 people on board, crashed and overturned while landing in Toronto. The Delta flight from Minneapolis skidded along the runway with flames and came to a halt upside down. 

However, all the people on board survived the crash, leaving 18 persons injured. The cause of the crash is yet to be determined.

The latest incident has brought a spotlight to several other crashes reported in the first two months of 2025. According to the US' National Transportation Safety Board, there have been 87 aviation accidents this year, including 13 fatal incidents.

While 10 fatal incidents have been reported in January in the US, three others have been reported in February. 

Here are some of the major crashes across the globe reported this year:

Alaska Plane Crash 

A small commute plane crashed on its way to Alaska's Nome on February 6, killing the pilot and nine passengers. The Bering Air single-engine turboprop Cessna Caravan was travelling from Unalakleet when it disappeared about an hour after taking off. After a search, the plane’s debris and bodies were found the next day on the sea ice.

Philadelphia Air Ambulance Crash

A medical transport plane, carrying a a child patient, her mother and four others, crashed near a shopping mall on a busy intersection in Northeast Philadelphia seconds after take off. The crash took place less than 4 kilometres from Northeast Philadelphia Airport, which primarily serves business jets and chartered flights, according to the Associated Press. 

Seven people were killed in the crash, including a man who was inside his car when the plane crashed.

Washington Plane-Helicopter Crash

An Army helicopter collided with an American Airlines flight which was landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington on January 29, killing all 67 people aboard. While 64 people were on the American Airlines plane, three others were onborad the military helicopter when the aircraft collided over the Potomac River in Washington DC.

US' Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the crash occurred when a regional jet that had departed from Wichita, Kansas, collided with a military helicopter on a training flight during its approach to an airport runway.

Air Busan Plane Fire

A plane in South Korea, with 169 passengers on board, caught fire on January 28 at an airport in the southern city Busan, forcing the evacuation of all 176 people on board.

Though there were no casualties, but four people suffered injuries while escaping the Air Busan aircraft on inflatable slides. The blaze started at the tail of the Hong Kong-bound plane shortly before take-off. 

Jeju Air Crash

In the deadliest aviation disaster in South Korea's history, a Boeing 737-800 operated by Jeju Air skidded off a runway in Muan after its landing gear failed to deploy and slammed into a concrete structure and bursting into flames, killing all but two of the 181 people on board. The crash happened on December 29, 2024. Though the crash occurred last year, it is one of the most fatal airline disasters in recent history.
