New Delhi: Every year, on the occasion of Father's Day, we honour fathers and other father figures to recognise their contributions to and influence over our lives. On this particular day, which is usually celebrated on the third Sunday in June, we thank our fathers for their love and support. This year, Father's Day will be celebrated on June 18 throughout the country, but it will be celebrated on various dates in different countries with their own culture and traditions.

Father's Day 2023: History

Father's Day originated in the United States when Sonora Smart Dodd first laid emphasis on a day to honour fathers in the early 20th century after being moved by the creation of Mother's Day by Anna Jarvis. This day was first observed in Spokane, Washington, on June 19, 1910.

Over time, it grew in popularity, and in 1972, President Richard Nixon declared Father's Day to be celebrated on the third Sunday in June and children all throughout the world show their love and gratitude for fathers, grandfathers, and other father figures on this day.

Father's Day 2023: Significance

Father's Day is significant because it honours the sacrifices, love, and support that fathers give to their children. Fathers are essential in guiding and forming the lives of their children by instilling morals, conveying practical knowledge, and offering emotional support. They devote their entire lives to making sure their families are happy and healthy and are the family's pillars, defenders, and providers.
