Arjun Kapoor recently opened up about being there for his ex-partner Malaika Arora at a difficult time in her life, when she lost her adopted father. Saying that he wanted to honour the emotional bond that he has had in his past relationships, Arjun Kapoor spoke about how his personal traumas have influenced his romantic relationships.
Why Arjun Kapoor is fearful of relationships?
In an interaction with Raj Shamani on his podcast, Arjun said that because of his mother's death and parents' separation, he entered relationships with the assumption they will not last.
Arjun spoke about her 'ups and downs' in her personal life recently and said that one can never tell if the 'right' person will turn out to be wrong in the end.
When he was asked about being there for Malaika in her moment of need, he recalled the time when Sridevi died suddenly in 2018 and Arjun tried to mend bridges with him even then.
“When what happened with dad and Khushi-Janhvi, there was an impulse. And in this case also, there was an instinct and impulse. If I’ve formed an emotional bond with somebody, I would always like to believe that I will be there regardless of the good and the bad. If I’m invited for the good, I will be there. And if I’m needed for the bad, I will be there. I’m not somebody who has a lot of friends, I’m not doing this for all and sundry. If that person doesn’t want me there, I’ll maintain a distance, as I have in the past,” he said.
“Today, the media and the industry has changed also. When I made my debut, and when I was growing up, there were a lot of things that were clandestine, and for the right reasons. It’s one thing to have gossip, but the moment you confirm things now, there is a culture of wanting to know everything. Nowadays, you can’t just go a restaurant without being ‘spotted’. Everyone has a phone, forget the paps,” the actor added.
Arjun Kapoor on going public with relationships
Arjun Kapoor also admitted that he thinks it is wise to go public with a relationship, because it looks shady when being spotted secretly. "It cheapens the relationship. It makes sense to be forthright about your partner in a dignified manner… I’m a private person. It took me a while to come on social media. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar forced me to come on social media after 2 States,” Arjun said.
While Arjun admitted that he was not 'commitment phobic' but he did 'fear a loss' because of what happened with him in the past. "There is a difference. My mom left me, my father made a choice. So, there’s a fear of loss. There’s a feeling that eventually, everyone will leave.”
