UP Municipal Election Results 2023: Amidst the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Nikay Chunav results, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday claimed that the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has won more than double seats compare to the previous urban local body polls, news agency ANI reported.

"Our ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) won both the Suar and Chanbe by-polls and defeated the Samajwadi Party. I thank the voters for giving us the opportunity in the urban local body elections and by-elections. I want to assure the people that the UP government will continue to work for their development and security," he further stated.

The BJP is on its way to achieving a sweeping victory in the urban local body elections by maintaining its hold on the Nagar Nigam, Nagar Palika Parishad, and Nagar Panchayat polls. The BJP was able to dominate in all 17 Mayor positions, and emerged victorious in several key cities including Jhansi, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Mathura, and Moradabad. The political parties BSP, Congress, and SP have not made any progress or advancement. At present, the most recent developments reveal that the political party adorned with the color saffron is emerging victorious in 204 Chairman seats within the Nagar Panchayat while also securing 98 Chairman seats in the Nagar Palika Parishad.

The vote tally for the UP urban local body elections is currently in progress, after a highly competitive campaigning period featuring figures such as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav.

The local council election was conducted in a two-part series that took place on May 4 and May 11. Approximately 53 percent of the total 4.32 crore eligible voters exercised their right to vote as per the data provided by the Election Commission.

After the announcement of the results, a total of 1,401 municipal councillors and 17 mayors will be elected. A total of 19 corporators have secured their position without encountering any opposition during the election. This year, Shahjahanpur will have its inaugural mayoral election as the city was granted municipal corporation status in 2018 following the previous civil polls in the state.
