WATCH: Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi; Waterlogging Hits, IMD Issues Orange Alert

Heavy rain lashed Delhi, prompting the IMD to issue an orange alert. Waterlogging hit several areas, disrupting traffic, while AQI remained satisfactory amid forecasts of more rain, and thunderstorms.

Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi on Tuesday morning, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for the national capital over the next few hours. Dark clouds covered the city as moderate to heavy showers continued, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions during the morning rush hour.

The weather office has forecast an overcast sky with moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, over the next few hours.

Rainfall Recorded Across Key Weather Stations

According to the IMD, Safdarjung recorded 32.4 mm of rainfall till 8:30 am, while Ridge received 37.6 mm, Lodi Road 36.7 mm, Ayanagar 4.0 mm and Palam 0.8 mm during the same period.

On Monday, between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, Ridge recorded 19.4 mm of rainfall, followed by Lodi Road at 11.5 mm, Safdarjung at 8.0 mm and Ayanagar at 3.8 mm. Palam did not receive any rainfall during that period.

The minimum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 25.5 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees below normal.

AQI Remains In Satisfactory Category

Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality remained in the 'satisfactory' category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 77 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is classified as 'good', 51-100 as 'satisfactory', 101-200 as 'moderate', 201-300 as 'poor', 301-400 as 'very poor', and 401-500 as 'severe'.

Water Logging In Several Areas

Videos shared by ANI and PTI showed waterlogging in several parts of the city, disrupting traffic movement during the morning peak hours. Visuals from Vayu Bhawan, Punjabi Bagh and Connaught Place showed vehicles crawling through inundated roads as persistent rainfall led to water accumulation at multiple locations, slowing traffic across the capital.

PTI also shared visuals of rain lashing parts of the city near AIIMS, while another video showed waterlogging on Tolstoy Marg following the heavy downpour.
