Canada Increases Temporary Resident Application Fees; Check All The Details Here

Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has updated its fees with the following changes: Authorisation to return to Canada now costs $479.75 (approximately Rs 40,624), up from $459.55

Canada has raised fees for temporary resident applications, effective December 1, 2024. This fee increase impacts individuals, including those from India who are applying to visit, work, or study in Canada and those seeking to renew their temporary resident status.

Alongside the fee hikes, the Canadian government is making significant cuts to its immigration targets. The number of new permanent residents planned for 2025 will drop from 485,000 in 2024 to 395,000, with additional reductions expected in the following years.

In a further effort to curb immigration, Canada has launched a global online campaign to warn asylum seekers about the stringent criteria for refugee claims.

Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated its fees with the following changes: Authorisation to return to Canada now costs $479.75 (approximately Rs 40,624), up from $459.55. The fee for inadmissibility on criminal grounds has increased to $239.75 from $229.77, while the fee for inadmissibility on serious criminal grounds has risen to $1,199.00 from $1,148.87. The restoration of student status is now priced at $389.75, up from $379.00, and the restoration of visitor status is $239.75, an increase from $229.00. Similarly, the fee for restoring worker status has been raised to $394.75 from $384.00, and the fee for a temporary resident permit is now $239.75, up from $229.77.

If you paid the old fee before the new rates took effect, you won’t be affected if you submit an online application, as the IRCC processes these applications immediately, confirming receipt and requiring no additional payment. However, for paper applications, timing is crucial. If the IRCC receives a paper application after the fee increase, it will generally accept the old fee. However, if the application is complete, the old fee was paid in full, and the application was mailed before the fee increase took effect. If the new fee exceeds the old one, applicants will be notified to pay the difference and follow instructions to complete the additional payment.
