Tata Harrier, Safari First Cars To Get Bharat NCAP 5-Star Rating

While exact details of the test are awaited, the Harrier and Safari scored 5 stars in both adult and child occupant protection.

The new Tata Safari and Harrier have become the first cars to get the Bharat NCAP 5-star rating in India under the new crash test rating system for cars sold in India.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari handed over the BNCAP certification to Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. While exact details of the test are awaited, the Harrier and Safari scored 5 stars in both adult and child occupant protection. Both SUVs come with 6 airbags as standard and offer 7 as optional while getting safety equipment like ESC, ADAS features and more.

The Government of India with its Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) has completed its first round of crash testing and these two SUVs are the first cars to have their results out. Other than Tata Motors, many carmakers have also submitted cars for testing. Currently, it is voluntary and, like other NCAP testing procedures, the base variant is tested under Bharat NCAP.

The Safari and Harrier are based on the OMEGARC architecture, derived from Land Rover’s D8 Platform. Earlier this year both of these two SUVs were launched in a new avatar and have gained new styling as well as new features. The Safari and Harrier also come with a new interior while they retain the diesel engine which was offered earlier with automatic and manual options. In the weeks to come we can expect more results to come from Bharat NCAP with more cars being put under the crash test scanner with new cars being launched this year being sent to test first.
