Mahindra Unveils Concept Version of Pik-Up: A Glimpse into Next-Gen Getaway
Under the hood, the Pik-Up will be equipped with a 2.2-litre diesel engine, featuring a 4x4 drivetrain and various drive modes.
Automotive manufacturer Mahindra recently unveiled its much-anticipated concept version of the Pik-Up, providing a sneak peek into the upcoming generation of the Getaway, along with an upscaled offering. This unveiling marks a significant step in Mahindra's aim to tap into higher market segments.
The Pik-Up, built on the Scorpio N platform, showcases a design language that draws inspiration from the platform's rugged styling. However, notable differentiators exist between the Pik-Up and its SUV counterpart, the Scorpio N.
Positioned as a double-cab truck, the Pik-Up embodies both ruggedness and a touch of lifestyle luxury. It has placed itself in a premium niche above the Getaway. While still in its conceptual phase, the Pik-Up boasts a muscular front fascia reminiscent of the Scorpio N, complete with its robust demeanour. However, the Pik-Up distinguishes itself with even more assertive styling cues.
The rear end of the Pik-Up is marked by a revolutionary taillamp design, although it remains uncertain if these intricate details will make their way to the production model.
Under the hood, the Pik-Up will be equipped with a 2.2-litre diesel engine, featuring a 4x4 drivetrain and various drive modes. The production version is set to offer a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission, mirroring the options available in the Scorpio N lineup.
Setting a new standard for vehicular technology, the Pik-Up will boast features such as a sunroof, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), 5G connectivity, and much more, catering to the demands of modern consumers.
Internally, the cabin design of the Pik-Up mirrors the aesthetics of the Scorpio N, retaining the familiarity that Mahindra enthusiasts have come to appreciate.
Beyond design and features, the Pik-Up rides on a new platform that positions it to enter untapped global markets. While the pickup segment is in its early stages in India, with limited offerings and is overshadowed by the popularity of SUVs, the introduction of the Pik-Up could potentially accelerate the growth of this segment in the country.
Moreover, the Pik-Up is strategically aimed at pickup-loving markets such as Australia and South Africa. In these regions, it is likely to find its place above the older 'Scorpio-based' pickup, further expanding Mahindra's footprint in these markets.
Anticipation is building for the production version of the Pik-Up, which is expected to hit showrooms in the near future. Industry insiders suggest that the rugged and robust styling showcased in the concept model will seamlessly translate to the final production variant, promising a compelling addition to the automotive landscape.
