ABP Live Auto Awards 2022: Sedan Of The Year – Volkswagen Virtus
ABP Live Auto Awards 2022 – Sedan Of The Year: Volkswagen Virtus is not over-styled and has a simple yet clean design which won points for its overall stylistic concept.
Sedans have made a strong comeback this year with multiple new options while the Virtus from Volkswagen ultimately got the award for its crisp dynamics matched with elegant styling. With a length of 4561mm, it is the longest sedan in its class while the extended proportions further make the stance much better. The sportier GT version meanwhile adds more blackened elements while the interior gets a dash of red accents along with sportier pedals. The Virtus is not over-styled and has a simple yet clean design which scored points for its overall styling theme.
Inside, the Virtus has a long wheelbase which means the space here is huge at the rear seat while even the front seats are accommodating. The design is typical of Volkswagen in its neat layout with a simple centre console with a touch layout for the climate control buttons. Some of the features like a cooled glovebox, ventilated seats, and connected car technology are also useful when getting a sunroof too. In terms of safety, the Virtus gets six airbags, ESC, and a tyre pressure monitor.
A sedan is more about comfort but with the Virtus, we like the mix of ride and handling with sporty dynamics while the 179mm ground clearance is enough to dodge potholes on our roads while also matching some SUVs here too. The stable handling and the communicative steering impressed us while both the powertrains were ample in their power delivery. The 1.0 TSI with the manual gearbox and the automatic proved a nice balance between efficiency and performance while the larger 1.5 TSI greatly impressed us with its power at 150 bhp, which is the highest output in its class. On the other hand, the large rear seat means it is also a comfortable chauffeur-driven car- important since sedans are also looked at for their rear seat space.
