The off-road ability has been best known with ladder-frame SUVs but the Meridian shows how a modern-day SUV can conquer the rough stuff. The off-roader of the year award goes to the new premium three-row Jeep SUV since it yet again stays faithful to its badge while combining off-road ability with electronics. Yet, the Meridian does not feel aloof or gets the driver detached while only making it easier.

The Meridian comes with a turbo diesel engine along with a 9-speed automatic gearbox plus the Jeep Selec Terrain management system gets you various traction modes built to suit a particular kind of surface. Hence, while you can leave the system in auto to do everything automatically, you can shift to sand/mud or snow. We tested the Jeep Meridian off-road and were impressed at how effortlessly it handled the various off-road obstacles thrown at us.

You can put it in 4WD Low but most of the time, you do not really need to do that as the car is capable enough. The system makes off-roading easy while not taxing you with a hard ride or even making off-roading difficult. The all-season tyres of the Meridian and impressive approach/departure angles further helped matters here. Do note that the Meridian comes with a ground clearance of 214mm which also proved crucial in off-roading. Despite the long wheelbase, the Meridian does not feel outmatched with cramped surroundings plus the front end does not get a low bumper which means off-roading is free from worrying scrapes! 

We took the Meridian over stairs, and steep inclines, and even did some water wading with the SUV coming out with flying colours. Compared to other rivals, the Meridian feels more agile and has a more robust suspension. Hence, the Jeep Meridian effortlessly walks away with the offroader of the year award with its wide array of capabilities and the ability to go anywhere with effortless ease.
