2021 Honda Amaze Facelift Review - Check Specifications, Features & All About The New Sedan
The clear USP of the Amaze is that it gives a feeling of buying a premium sedan for hatchback money. It also does not look like it has been derived from a hatchback because unlike rivals, it hasn't!
New Delhi: When it is raining SUVs elsewhere, Honda is still flying the flag for the sedan and it has been fairly successful till now with the Amaze and the new City. The Amaze is one of its strong selling models and also a popular one in its class (the second best seller) hence, it is all the more important to keep the product fresh in the eyes of the consumer. So what you see here is the 2021 facelifted Amaze with a set of updates mostly around the exterior and interior.
The clear USP of the Amaze is that it gives a feeling of buying a premium sedan for hatchback money. It also does not look like it has been derived from a hatchback because unlike rivals, it hasn't! The shape is like a proper sedan despite being under 4m and the minor tweaks make it even better looking now. The front-end particularly looks wider with the new bumper along with an updated grille with additional chrome. The headlamps are also re-designed being LED projector units with DRLs and even the fog-lamps are LED now. Move to the side and there is a new diamond cut design for the 15-inch wheels while the rear gets C-shape tail-lamps. A new grey colour has been added to the range as well.
Inside, it is pretty much the same but the design is simple but straightforward and effective. There is a hint of silver for the dashboard or door trims while the AC vent knobs are chrome plated. Honda has also added a new stitching pattern for the upholstery. The feature list includes cruise control, climate control, paddle shifts, a 7-inch touch screen with smartphone connectivity, auto headlamps, ABS with EBD plus dial airbags (along with mandatory safety equipment) etc.
New to the Amaze is the rear-view camera which not only shows an image of very good quality, there are multi-views available to make parking easier. Not that you need parking or driving the Amaze is an easy affair! Amongst all this, a bit more in terms of features would have been welcome though! Space is impressive with large windows and enough headroom plus legroom.
In terms of the driving experience on offer, the steering is light as well as the engines on offer are quick plus efficient. We drove the top-end petrol manual with a 1.2l unit with 90hp and it is plenty of fun in the city while being tractable enough for low speed progress. You will get excellent efficiency figures of 15 kmpl plus in the city for both the CVT or manual. The CVT automatic gets additional paddle shifters too, which is something you do not see at this price. The diesel Amaze with a 1.5l engine will get you even better mileage at 20kmpl plus but it is also 2 lakh more expensive, hence is a bit pricey. Speaking of which, the new Amaze starts at Rs 6.3 lakh for the base version while the top-end petrol manual is Rs 8.2 lakh. The CVT petrol is Rs 8 to Rs 9 lakh. The diesel is priced between Rs 8.6 to Rs 11.5 lakh.
Overall, the new Amaze is basically a proper sedan for hatchback money and it also offers space and comfort which a hatchback or a base version subcompact SUV cannot. The updates make it further premium still (more so in the looks department) and it is a quite a good option for the price.
What we like- Looks, space, efficiency, performance, value, CVT automatic.
what we do not- Diesel version is expensive, wireless charging would have been a great addition.
