YouTube Music And Premium Cross 80 Million Subscribers Globally. Know Everything

YouTube Music and Premium have surpassed 80 million subscribers globally, including trial users, joining the likes of Spotify.

YouTube Music and Premium have surpassed 80 million subscribers globally, including trial users, joining the likes of Spotify, Google has announced. This number stood at 50 million subscribers a year ago. With this, now YouTube Music and Premium has joined rival Swedish music streaming giant Spotify's collection of more than 80 million songs.

Earlier this month, Amazon Music's music catalogue touched 100 million songs from 2 million tracks, to join Apple Music's 100 million tracks.

"Today I am ringing the bell: As of September 2022, YouTube surpassed 80 million Music and Premium subscribers globally, including those in trials. This is a 30 million member increase from the 50 million we announced last year, and a monumental moment for music on YouTube, our subscribers, and artists," Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music, YouTube, said in a statement.

According to the YouTube's global head of music, partnerships with mobile network operators and smartphone companies have helped in reaching the subscriber base of more than 80 million worldwide.

"We understand the power of collaboration. Since the launch of YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, we’ve built partnerships with companies like Samsung, carriers like SoftBank (Japan), Vodafone (Europe), and LG U+ (Korea), and Google services such as Google One. These partners were critical in helping us reach this 80 million subscriber milestone and will continue helping us enhance the music experience for fans around the world," Cohen added.

Without auto-renewal, the basic one-month YouTube Premium plan costs Rs 139 in India and Rs 129, with auto-renewal and free access for a month. It should be noted that subscribers can cancel their YouTube Premium membership at any time. The quarterly subscription fee is available at Rs 399 and the annual subscription cost is Rs 1,290.

This comes a month after Apple Music touched 100 million tracks, and weeks Amazon Music announced boasting of expanding its tracks from two million to 100 million.
