Xiaomi 16 Series: India To Miss Out On Pro Model Again As Launch Nears

The Xiaomi 16 series is expected to debut in China first, as per tradition, with a global rollout (excluding the Pro for India) likely to follow.

Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its flagship Xiaomi 16 series in China later this year, but Indian fans may have to settle for just the base model once again. Recent leaks from the GSMA IMEI database indicate that the Xiaomi 16 Pro will likely remain exclusive to the Chinese market — mirroring the company’s strategy from last year.

No Xiaomi 16 Pro for India — Again

Model numbers revealed on the IMEI database provide a clear picture of Xiaomi’s regional rollout plans. The standard Xiaomi 16 appears with three listings: 25113PN0EC for China, 25113PN0EG for global markets, and 25113PN0EI specifically for India. In contrast, the Xiaomi 16 Pro is listed under two codes — 2509FPN0BC and 25098PN5AC — both of which are tagged only for China.

This strongly suggests that Indian consumers will not see the Pro variant on shelves, continuing a pattern from previous launches. The dual model numbers for the Pro hint at different configurations, though Xiaomi hasn’t disclosed details yet. It’s speculated that one version could offer satellite connectivity or a premium ceramic finish.

Xiaomi 16 Likely to Go Global with 'Nezha' Codename

The standard Xiaomi 16 is expected to be more widely available, including in India. Internally codenamed “Nezha,” this model seems poised to make a broader impact. While Xiaomi has yet to confirm specifications, leaks suggest the device will debut the much-anticipated Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, reportedly being marketed as Snapdragon 8 Elite 2.

It’s also said to be undergoing tests with a sizeable 6,800mAh battery, coupled with 100W fast charging. If true, this would mark a significant battery boost over its predecessor, putting Xiaomi firmly in the ultra-flagship power race.

Pro Variant May Feature Flat Display and 2K OLED Panel

Although India may miss out on the Xiaomi 16 Pro, the model itself is shaping up to be a premium offering. Leaks claim the device will sport a flat 6.85-inch LTPO OLED screen with 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate — features designed to cater to display purists who prefer flatter panels over curved ones.

Design-wise, Xiaomi seems to be refining rather than reinventing. While earlier flagships leaned into curved displays and glossy finishes, the shift toward a flat screen could appeal to users looking for practicality and durability in a high-end form factor.

The Xiaomi 16 series is expected to debut in China first, as per tradition, with a global rollout (excluding the Pro for India) likely to follow in the months ahead.
