WhatsApp Makes Video Calls More Immersive With New Filters, Backgrounds, More Tools: How To Use

WhatsApp offers a total of 10 AR filters, which include options such as Warm, Cool, Black & White, Light Leak, Dreamy, Prism Light, Fisheye, Vintage TV, Frosted Glass, and Duo Tone.

WhatsApp has introduced a range of new tools aimed at enhancing its video call experience, adding a personal and creative flair to calls. The popular messaging platform now allows users to apply augmented reality (AR) filters and custom backgrounds during video calls. These updates bring WhatsApp in line with other video conferencing platforms like Google Meet and Zoom, offering more options for users to express themselves or maintain privacy during video calls.

According to WhatsApp, these new features will allow users to personalise their video calls while keeping the visuals professional and engaging. Instead of a standard video feed, users can apply filters that add warmth, colour tones, or artistic effects, making calls more lively. WhatsApp's addition of backgrounds will also help users obscure their surroundings, which is particularly useful when speaking to someone you don't know well or when you want to keep your environment private.

What Are The New WhatsApp Filters?

WhatsApp offers a total of 10 AR filters, which include options such as Warm, Cool, Black & White, Light Leak, Dreamy, Prism Light, Fisheye, Vintage TV, Frosted Glass, and Duo Tone. Each filter brings its own unique effect to the video, whether users want to create a retro vibe with Vintage TV or add a soft glow with Dreamy.

In addition to filters, users can also choose from a selection of 11 custom backgrounds to alter their surroundings. These backgrounds include Blur, Living Room, Office, Café, Pebbles, Foodie, Smoosh, Beach, Sunset, Celebration, and Forest, allowing users to appear in different environments or blur the background for more privacy.

More Adjustments

WhatsApp is also introducing additional tools, such as touch-up options and low-light adjustments, to improve video quality. These features are designed to enhance the overall video experience, making the video clearer in poor lighting conditions and adding a smoother look to the feed.

How To Use WhatsApp Filters

To use these new features, users can access the effect icons on the top-right corner of the screen during a video call and choose from the available filters or backgrounds. The features are compatible with both one-on-one and group video calls.

Although WhatsApp has not specified which platforms will receive the update first, it confirmed that the new tools will be rolled out to users globally in the coming weeks.

This means Android and iPhone users can expect the features to be available soon, further enhancing their video calling experience on WhatsApp.
