WhatsApp Will Soon Stop Working On These iPhone Models, Know Why

WhatsApp reportedly plans to implement this change starting in May 2025, giving users ample time to upgrade their devices to access future updates and features.

iPhone users might be in trouble again as the instant messaging platform WhatsApp will soon stop working on some models. WhatsApp continually introduces new features for its users, but older devices often lack the hardware capabilities to keep up with these advancements. As a result, the app occasionally discontinues support for certain devices. Soon, this will include some well-known iPhone models.

The positive aspect is that WhatsApp is providing ample notice to affected users, giving them sufficient time to transition and secure their chats and media files before access is discontinued in 2025.

Which iPhones Will Be Affected

WhatsApp will soon cease to function on iPhones running iOS 15.1, urging users to upgrade to devices compatible with newer iOS versions. Currently, the app supports iPhones operating on iOS 12, but by May 2025, only devices with more recent iOS updates will be able to use the platform.

This move allows WhatsApp to streamline its app, enhance performance, and implement features that are not compatible with older operating systems, according to a tipster.

Since iOS 15 is now three generations old, upgrading to newer models like the iPhone 13 or 14 might be a good option. However, users of older models such as the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus will likely face compatibility issues with the updated version of WhatsApp.

Why Is WhatsApp Doing This?

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp plans to implement this change starting in May 2025, giving users ample time to upgrade their devices to access future updates and features. Apple has ceased support for older iOS versions, increasing the security risks for users on outdated devices.

Considering these factors, updating the app’s support framework for iPhones is essential. This ensures users can enjoy the latest features seamlessly while minimising potential security threats to their devices and accounts.
