WhatsApp Testing New Feature, To Redesign Status Bar With Equal Emphasis On Stories & Channels
WhatsApp has a history of playing around with the UI, however, the new interface will only be implemented if it will be fit to use for the regular audience or to make space for a new feature.
Meta-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is currently testing a new User-Interface (UI) which will emphasise both features stories and channels. This new UI will allow users to preview stories without actually opening them. According to recent reports, WhatsApp is testing this new interface on Android phones for now, however, soon we might see a similar update on iPhones as well. The new updated status bar at the moment is available on the beta version of WhatsApp (v2.24.4.23).
As per the WABetaInfo, this is still an experimental feature and it should help the users to distinguish between stories and channels easily. The status now appears in a rectangular format and gives a quick preview of the content for users. This new UI also allows users to subscribe or access a specific channel quickly.

What Was The Need For This New Feature & How To Test It
Currently, since the introduction of channels on the status bar, the UI has become a bit cluttered as one had to hide the seen stories in order to get quick access to the channels. Now, with this upcoming change, the company is likely to fix the same issue and offer a cleaner status menu, which will make it easy to access both stories and channels.
WhatsApp provides early access to its beta version for Android through the Google Play store and for iPhones through the App Store. This unique opportunity allows enthusiastic users to explore upcoming features before they are released to the general public. Additionally, this beta testing phase plays a crucial role for the company, enabling thorough evaluation and refinement of new features before their official rollout to ensure a seamless user experience.
