The Elon Musk-owned company said that it is adding phone verification as a review step for those applying for the Twitter blue checkmark, in a bid to avoid impersonation.

Twitter's much-talked-about Twitter Blue subscription plan, which the company said will cost more for iPhone users, has been relaunched today (December 12). The Elon Musk-owned company also said that it is adding phone verification as a review step for those applying for the Twitter blue checkmark, in a bid to avoid impersonation.

According to Esther Crawford, Product Manager at Twitter, the review step has been added for users before they are given the blue checkmark. "On Monday we are bringing back the ability to subscribe to @TwitterBlue  — it’ll be $8/mo on the web and $11/mo on iOS.  We've added a review step before applying a blue checkmark to an account as one of our new steps to combat impersonation (which is against the Twitter Rules)," Crawford tweeted.

Several Twitter users asked Crawford their doubts about the new changes in the Twitter Blue subscription service. One user asked: "Will there be ID verification?", to which Crawford replied: "We don't have ID verification in this update."
