Turkiye Earthquake: After Google And Apple, Samsung Donates $3 Million For Relief

After tech giants Apple and Google announced support for the victims of disastrous earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, Samsung has announced donating $3 million to the earthquake victims.

After tech giants Apple and Google announced support for the victims of disastrous earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, Samsung has announced donating $3 million to the earthquake victims. The South Korean tech giant will donate $1.5 million in cash to Turkey Disaster and Risk Management Agency, it has announced.

Samsung will also donate free Galaxy tablets for the education of the affected children, home appliances for temporary shelters for the victims, portable ultrasound diagnostic devices that can be used to treat people at disaster locations and free home appliance repair vehicles that have goods worth $1.5 million.

The company's employees will voluntarily organise fundraising activities to support victims in earthquake-hit areas in Turkey. These donations are in line with the company’s earlier donation efforts to help people in natural disasters.

To recall, Samsung donated $1 million in 2010 after the Haiti earthquake, $0.76 million in 2011 after the Japan earthquake and $1 million in 2013 after the Philippines typhoon.

Earlier this week, Apple and Google announced support for Turkey and Syria after they were struck by powerful earthquakes within 12 hours on Monday (February 6), causing significant loss of life and property. Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook took to Twitter to announce condolences to the affected families.

Both Cook and Pichai also announced that both Apple and Google would make donations to help the quake-affected people with relief and recovery efforts.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the Turkey-Syria earthquakes has risen to 20,000 as the bitter cold hindered rescue efforts. According to Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the dead toll has grown to at least 16,546, with 66,132 people injured. According to Syrian state media, the overall number of dead in Syria has risen to at least 3,192, including 1,930 in rebel-held regions in the northwest, according to the White Helmets civil defence group, and 1,262 in government-controlled areas.

Turkiye's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Thursday stated that 95 countries and 16 international organisations had promised help to Turkey in the aftermath of this week's terrible earthquake, says a report by CNN.
